Sodium in drinking water is problematic.
It increases the risk of cancer and heart attacks.
Despite this, classic descaling systems (ion exchangers) rely on this chemical process.

How does sodium get into the water?

Thousands of descaling systems are in use in Switzerland.
They are designed to protect households from unpleasant limescale build-up and create greater convenience.
Unfortunately, descaling systems using the ion exchanger method are still used far too often.
They are based on a chemical process that replaces the calcium contained in the water with sodium.
This solves the limescale problem, but the water changes considerably as a result.
Valuable minerals such as calcium or magnesium are removed from the water.

What all these devices [Ionentauscher] have in common is that they remove calcium and magnesium from the water, but add a very considerable amount of sodium instead

Sodium in water is harmful to health

If this sodium-contaminated water is used to wash cars or in a laundry, there are no health risks – but the environmental impact is increased.
However, if this water is used to water plants, the magnesium and calcium deficiency is already noticeable.
It becomes problematic when humans and animals consume this water regularly.

However, the consumption of such water is completely problematic for humans and animals.
As we now know with certainty, the depletion of calcium and magnesium leads to a considerable increase in both heart attacks and the risk of cancer.

Relying on alternative technologies

Ion exchangers may solve limescale problems at home, but their use is harmful to health.
This is why “Die Neue Ärztliche” advises the use of physical descaling systems(such as our ENK Quattro Power).
These solve the limescale problem without having a negative effect on the minerals contained in the water.
The water is not decalcified, but the limescale is rendered harmless.

Such conditioned water therefore retains the magnesium and calcium components that are essential for human health without damaging the pipes.
